Title: Trespassers Will
Prompt:
greysprompts, Meredith/Izzie, roommates.
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 377 words
Summary: "But. It's still Meredith. Who is her roommate, and kind of an idiot, but usually means well."
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Izzie is reading when Meredith comes in.
Specifically, Izzie is reading Winnie the Pooh, because George left his copy in his night-table drawer when he left, even though it's his favourite book. And Izzie needs George, because he left and he won't tell her where he's living and she had a bad day. She doesn't even remember what she did on bad days before she had George, anymore. So she's reading because she's upset and she needs a surrogate George, and then Meredith comes in without saying a word.
Izzie looks up briefly, but goes back to reading. She doesn't look up again when Meredith sits down next to her on the bed, doesn't look up when Meredith leans against her and starts reading over her shoulder. She doesn't look up at all until she's finished the chapter and closed the book.
"Hey."
Meredith looks up at Izzie with a tiny, peace-offering smile, and moves to set the book on the floor. "Hey."
Izzie should be angry. She is angry, because Meredith broke George, and if it wasn't for her then he'd be here to keep her company and she wouldn't have to read Winnie the Pooh. She could be with George. But. It's still Meredith. Who is her roommate, and kind of an idiot, but usually means well and probably misses George too, at least a little. So Izzie shrugs, and pulls the covers back like an invitation. She gets it.
Meredith snuggles in against Izzie, can't help rolling her eyes when their legs touch and she realizes Izzie isn't wearing any pants. It's not a surprise, because Izzie barely wears pants when she's not in bed, but it's funny and familiar and she didn't realize she'd missed spending time with Izzie until now. Izzie catches Meredith's look, giggles and gently swats her shoulder. She looks like she's about to say something, too, but Meredith stretches up to cover her mouth with a quick kiss.
Izzie touches her fingertips to her lips almost reflexively, but doesn't say anything for a long while. She just watches Meredith, lying half next to her and half on top of her, and allows herself one slow smile.
"Seriously?"
Meredith just moves closer, and throws an arm around Izzie's waist. "Seriously."
