Title: Slowly Being Suffocated by Women (It's Not as Sexy as it Sounds)
Prompt: McDreamy, broken
Rating: PG
Word Count: 261.
Summary: Derek's pen is broken. It's a metaphor.
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Snap.
Derek's pen is broken.
It's not a big deal. Well, it shouldn't be a big deal. But it kind of is.
And he knows he's an adult and he has no right to complain but his pen is broken, and after seven hours of surgery and Bailey sassing him out in the scrub room, it kind of feels like a metaphor for his whole life. Which is kind of making him feel like he can't breathe.
And it is, in a way, because he thought his pen was fine until he touched it to the page and applied the tiniest bit of pressure, and then it was broken. And it's not like he knows how to fix it, because it's a pen - it's a marriage - and for once it's not something he'll be able to fix in the span of an elevator ride. It's confusing and unfamiliar in a way that makes him long for the straightforwardness of brain surgery, which is why he's here in the first place instead of at the trailer making awkward conversation with Addison.
And look what brain surgery has done for him. His pen is broken.
Derek is being ridiculous. He knows he's being ridiculous, but he liked that stupid pen, and it's not like he can talk about it with anybody because this is one of the weeks where most of the hospital staff have decided not to speak to him. He closes his eyes and puts the pen back in his pocket.
Maybe he'll be able to fix it later.
