Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.

George doesn’t realize it until he walks through the door - he forgot the kitchen.

He forgot the soft yellow light, the heat from the oven that didn’t always work. He forgot about sitting across from Izzie while she talked about nothing and got frosting on her nose. He got too wrapped up in being Independent George, who cut his hair and whose girlfriend didn’t cry during sex, and he forgot about eating chocolate cake for breakfast because it was the only food left in the house.

He forgot the kitchen, and he forgot Izzie, and now that he remembers he feels kind of different. Kind of proud, kind of fuzzy inside, kind of sheepish, because he forgot the best part of the house.

And he knows it’s a big deal that he remembered because when he goes to steal cookie dough, Izzie doesn’t even try to sever his arm with a wooden spoon. She turns away a little to hide her smile, tries to look like everything’s cool in a way that makes him laugh, and that's when it happens. That’s when she smacks his arm with her spatula, and he’s never been more excited about a bruise in his life, because he totally forgot.

He forgot the kitchen.
