Title: Friends Don't Let Friends Keep Secrets
Challenge: Started for [livejournal.com profile] daily15 #438, "telling," but ended up going way over the 15-minute mark.
Rating: PG
Pairing: Izzie/George friendship, mild Izzie/secret lover
Summary: "Izzie is having sex that she's not telling George about, and it's driving him crazy."

Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.

Izzie is having sex that she's not telling George about, and it's driving him crazy. It's not that he's invested in her sex life in a creepy way, doesn't want to know, like, details or anything, because he and Izzie are friends, and that's just not something that. . .no. But she's his friend, and he wants to know about major things in her life, because that's what friends do. They take an interest.

George knows Izzie is having sex that she's not telling him about, because Izzie is the most expressive person in the world and even though she can keep a secret, she couldn't hide the fact that she was keeping a secret if her life depended on it. When he asks her why she looks so tired, and she brushes him off with a half-truth about being preoccupied the night before, he rolls his eyes and gives her a look, and they both know that what Izzie was preoccupied with was having sex. Sex that she's not telling George about, and dammit, they're friends.

He realizes there are probably more tactful ways to handle the issue than to grab her by the arm and drag her into the on-call room to harass her about it. He realizes that even though Izzie is his friend, she has a right to privacy when it comes to her personal affairs. It's just that, well, he's George. He's spent weeks listening to her complain about boys night after night and shared a bathroom with her, and privacy doesn't really apply at this point.

"You had sex last night."

She opens her mouth to disagree, but he cuts her off.

"You had sex last night, and you didn't tell me about it, and that means you're seeing somebody new."

"No, I - I did not!" He gives her a stare, like he knows she's lying, and she meets his gaze with her own. But she keeps talking, because she totally is lying, and when Izzie is lying she chatters. "George, I didn't. And even if I did, which I didn't, how do you know I didn't just have sex with Alex?"

"Because if you had sex with Alex, you would've told me."

"Well, I just told you. I had sex with Alex. Now can you move? I have labs to - George."

"Izzie," he says in a calm, understanding voice, as he looks up at her with his warmest expression and throws his arm between her and the door. "I'm your friend. I'm asking you this because I'm your friend, and I know something's up, and you're a terrible liar. And even though I don't live with you anymore, I have ways of making you talk"

Izzie rolls her eyes and smiles a little, and George knows he's winning. "Fine. I had sex last night. Now let me go."

"That's it?"

"George, we're going to be late for rounds."

"So?" he says, but his voice cracks a bit.

"So, when Bailey asks me why we were late, and I tell her you trapped me in the on-call room and forced me to answer uncomfortable personal questions, who do you think she's going to pick to scrub in on Burke's valve replacement?"

"Fine. Have your secret lover. See if I care!"

"I don't have a secret lover!"

"Fine!"

"Fine!"

"Is it Burke?"

"Ew! Seriously! We have to go, George." He has to laugh, because the face she makes is so Izzie, and she's definitely telling him the truth, and he misses not being able to do this as much as they used to.

As they leave the room and half-jog to make rounds, George can't resist asking one last time. "You're sure you're not going to tell me who it was?"

"Yes. George, I'm positive. Would you just drop it?"

So he does. But when Dr. Montgomery-Shepherd calls a friendly "good morning" their way, Izzie stops to say hello. George waits for eight minutes past the start of rounds, while she giggles and plays with the ends of her ponytail and makes light, clever small talk. Which strikes him as odd initially, because he didn't think they got along very well, and after about five minutes the realization hits him. And then George almost needs his very own valve replacement, because Izzie is the most expressive person he's ever known. And Izzie is definitely having sex that she's not telling him about. And she's definitely having it with Addison Montgomery-Shepherd.
